Triple Jump for Birds

I was watching the European Athletics Championships on BBC TV the the night (I am a big fan of athletics) and after Phillips Idowu had completed his successful Triple Jump qualification jump the commentator said something like "now we can show you our latest snazzy piece of technology". This was a super-slow-motion replay of the jump but as it progressed it included a series of still captures of each phase, which were left in a trail behind Phillips as he jumped. It was brilliant for showing how the jump was executed and reminded me of the classic Eadweard Muybridge photographs of galloping horses and running men.

Now to the birding relevance of this post. I couldn't help feeling that it would be a superb technique to apply to wildlife to show their actions. A diving Kingfisher or a swooping Osprey would be stunning. I am sure Simon King or one of the other wildlife cameramen would love to get their hands on this technology and I wouldn't mind betting that we will see it on our screens in the future.
